From Faith: We invite you to ask friends or family to be part of our new Food Schmooze Ice Cream Sunday Club. On a series of designated Sundays, you and your band of merry followers head to a different ice cream stand to taste and hang out.
You’ll find plenty of places making their own flavors, including strawberry rhubarb and, our annual favorite—peach, using peaches from local farms.
You can vote for your favorite at the end of the season, if you want, and let us know. Ice Cream Sundays are a way to get out and explore, so check out the Connecticut tourism website ctvisit.com for interesting local attractions near your chosen ice cream stand. (Right now, I can’t get enough of the homemade honey yogurt at D’Latte in Greenport, Long Island. The owner spends a fortune every year on his gelato ingredients, including fruit from local farms.)

We love the homemade ice cream at the Ekonk Hill Turkey Farm in the village of Ekonk, part of Sterling, CT. They use local cream and fresh produce in season. The flavors and mouth-feel are heavenly.
I’m certain that Ms. Middleton would love their bacon-and-maple ice cream.
The Thanksgiving sandwiches, with the works and on homemade bread, are also great. Pies, pastries and cider doughnuts, too.

Tom, as I write this, it’s very cold outside, and I am wondering why I decided to make cold salmon salad for dinner. (It’s what was around — canned salmon, and puttanesca sauce I made a few nights ago, meaning it’s not glamorous around here on working weeknights.) Anyway, the real point is that in the midst of this deep freeze you have me craving Ekonk Hill ice cream! It’s rare to find a place using local cream and produce, so you’re very lucky. For those of us who are guests this Thanksgiving and have no leftovers to take home, sounds like Ekonk Hill turkey sandwiches are a good bet when the craving strikes. Many thanks, Tom, and Happy Holidays. Faith
