From Faith: Whether you are busy, lazy, cheap, or without cooking ability, we think it’s okay to use canned or packaged foods and doctor them to make them better. It turns out, as you can see from the recipe here, it’s even possible to make a toddy from hot Dr. Pepper. (You really can make this, but mostly we think it’s hilarious.) So here are some posts that we like very much at Serious Eats, with ideas for frozen green beans and nuts, canned soups, canned chili, doctoring packaged hummus and more. We agree with the writer; the organic or “healthy” version of canned or packaged goods usually have fewer additives and less salt. Go for those when you can.
