La Dauphine Chloe 2013 Pinot Noir, $15
This value red wine will appeal both to people who drink American pinot noir and people who drink French pinot noir. It’s made in two batches: one batch with really ripe pinot noir grapes, and the second with austere, slightly dry pinot noir. The makers blend the two together and age a third in oak barrels. It’s full bodied and rich. Not sweet. And at $15, it’s a fraction of the cost of a classic French pinot noir.
Delicious right out of the fridge? Pair with Pizza? Yes and yes. We chilled it overnight. It went down beautifully with the pizzas Chris grilled just before the show. Faith and Alex would pair it with (gosh!) so many grilled things: chicken, vegetables, salmon—name something on a typical summer menu and the answer is yes.
If your wine store doesn’t have La Dauphine Chloe on the shelf, show a staffer the picture of the label and ask him or her to order it for you.
