Breakfast in Bed

From Alex Province: Nothing says love like breakfast in bed… and it couldn’t be any easier. The secret to an elegant spread is in the details. Follow these tips for a flawless breakfast that is sure to impress mom.

  1. When you’re selecting a tray, remember that it has to be carried to the room without spills, so I suggest one with handles.
  2. Find suitable tea towels ahead of time and make sure they are laundered and ready to go. They can be plain white, or striped or mixed and matched. You are going to use these as both a place-mat (set at a diagonal across the tray), and as napkins.
  3. Brew some really nice coffee or tea and don’t forget the accoutrements like sugar and cream.
  4. This is the perfect occasion to use a juicer to press some really fresh orange juice or even pomegranate juice.
  5. Something as simple as a few slices of toast or an English muffin are sophisticated enough for the queen when served on nice china, so raid that china cabinet.
  6. A small bowl of plain yogurt can be elevated with a few pieces of fruit and a drizzling of honey.
  7. Finally, find a small bud vase and place a single flower inside. Even a daffodil or dandelion from the yard can be charming…and don’t forget the newspaper!
