Clos des Lumieres Makes a Lovely French White From the Rhône Region

Clos des Lumieres white wine

Clos des Lumieres makes a lovely French white from the Rhône region, and it’s a remarkable bargain. Yes, it’s in a box; don’t let that fool you. There are four bottles inside the compact cardboard package and at the flick of the wrist, out it comes into the glass (see the spout in the bottom left?). Why is this one nicely balanced and food-friendly, as so many boxed wines aren’t? Because the winemaker, Clos des Lumieres, blends viogner, white grenache and one of my grape favorites, rousanne, which enriches everything it touches. I’m not kidding…this easy-drinker comes to $8-9 a bottle and lasts seemingly forever in the fridge. Whatever you’re grilling tonight, it’ll pair nicely. Summer in a box.

Call ahead to your wine store and tell them the distributor is Winebow so they can bring it in for you quickly and easily.

Just got word that Bottle Shop of Unionville has boxes in stock. The Wise Old Dog on South Quaker Lane in West Hartford also has boxes on the shelf.

Hi, before you so confidently say that cartons are greener, more environmentally correct, then glass bottles, you should do your research. Glasses get recycled more frequently they are actually greener to use in cartons
please do your research you’ve given out wrong information. It’s important.

Alex has done his homework on this one, C, so we’ll have to agree to disagree on this point. Thanks for listening and writing in, though.

Call your local shop and ask the staff to order it for you. It’s a rule we always go by since it’s impossible for small shops to carry every new wine that becomes available in our region.

Hi Lynn. Thanks for listening (and loving Faith. . .you’re so sweet). I’m sure you can find a shop in one of those three towns that carries this particular wine, but we find it’s best to pick a shop close to you, call ahead, and ask if the owner would be willing to order a box for you.

Yes, we suspect. Call your favorite shop before heading over. If they don’t carry it, ask the staff to order it for you. Then, report back. Thanks!

I am a Sauvignon Blanc drinker normally. Would love to hear if this resembles that. Thank you.

The grapes are viogner, white grenache, and rousanne, if it helps to know that. It’s not especially grapefruity (like a Sauvignon Blanc often is) but ever so slightly floral in the nose and well balanced. It’s a refreshing easy drinker, though, and that IS like a SB.
