From Faith — Whether you eat gluten or don’t, check out Carole Peck’s new menu at her celebrated Good News Cafe in Woodbury, Ct., where farm-to-table dining is the order of the day. My friends who eat gluten-free were astounded. I’d say 75 percent of Carole’s selections are gluten-free, or can be adjusted easily. Don’t miss the warm crab taco on a corn tortilla with cheddar and smoked Tomatillo relish ($14.) Recently Carole was offering crunchy soft-shell crabs (cornmeal batter), with kale, snow peas, potato hash and a no-nut sorrel pesto. I loved the pork and clams with chorizo. For sweet-lovers, the desserts are first-rate, and one reason is that the pastry chef knows when to ease up on the sugar. You can actually taste the rich chocolate in the multi-layer chocolate cake. And gluten-free fans will adore the chocolate “Yankee Doodle” cupcakes. (We all know Carole and her team make the best mile-high Southern coconut cake on the East Coast.) Nice martini selection, too; try the peartini.
