New York Goes Taco-Crazy

New York City can be an expensive place to eat even for lunch. That’s why Faith likes to search out good spots that don’t cost a fortune. Since New York has gone taco-crazy, we decided to give you one of Faith’s cheap eats spots, and also provide the New York Village Voice list of its ten favorite taco spots in New York, many in the outer boroughs. Careful, even taco places these days can be pricey now that the owners know we love them. For the ultimate bargain, check out Faith’s place, Tortaria, at the top of the list…

Tortaria, University Place, corner of 12th St. 212-776-1830 or tortaria-nyc.com. (Faith says, “The masa tortillas are made by hand, and so is the guacamole. The fish tacos were terrific. The fresh corn is charred over a fire then spiced. The Mahi Mahi fish tacos were fantastic, two for $6.89!”) Fun atmosphere, too. Cool vibe and design.
