From Faith — Turns out you don’t have to go to Europe to experience five star food, you can head straight to Lobster Landing, a waterside shack at the end of Commerce Street in Clinton, Connecticut. Take a seat at a plastic table and feast on arguably the best hot lobster roll in Connecticut. It isn’t the biggest, though it’s hearty enough; it’s all about the care and quality of the entire process.
The fishing boats unload at the dock. The lobsters, we’re told, are steamed in their shells every two hours, to retain their juice; the picked meat is sent to the simple outdoor grill, and this is where the magic happens. The Italian American owner, who spends four months a year at his second home in Piedmont, Italy, is so precise about his rolls that he insists the butter be melted on a double-boiler to preserve its sweetness. Fresh lemon juice is added at the end. It’s a knock-out. (Gluten-free rolls are available.) Not interested in lobster? Try the sausage and peppers.
We agree heartily with the new Trip Advisor rating of five stars for Lobster Landing. Simple tents provide cover if it’s raining. They’ll give you glasses if you bring your own wine. The lobster rolls were $16 each on our recent visit – quite a bargain.
