From Faith — I want antioxidants in my diet, and as little sugar as possible, except when I splurge. That’s why I put a spoonful of truly raw organic cacao powder (ground bean) in my cup of chai tea each morning. If I’m in the mood, I add a touch of high quality ground cinnamon. No sugar needed. It’s rich, dark, and I’m convinced (true or not) that it’s good for me.
Use organic raw cacao powder in smoothies, granola, oatmeal, sauces, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and while baking. The only brand I’ve tried so far is Navitas Natural Organic Raw Cacao Powder, which says its gluten-free and Kosher, though processed in a factory that produces tree nuts. You can find these raw cacao powders in health food markets and online. They’re pricey but at a tablespoon a day, it lasts a long time.
I can’t find the recipe for a cacao almond butter smoothie I heard you talk about on your show recently. It sounded delicious, and I would love to have the ingredients.
Hi Frances. We don’t have that recipe on our site, but visit Dana’s blog to see one similar to the recipe Faith raved about in her book: http://minimalistbaker.com/creamy-chocolate-breakfast-shake/.
