Food thermometers have saved my recipes more times than I can count, so I’m a fan of thermometers that tell me when my item is cooked to the degree it should be. But a thermometer attached to a smart phone?
I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t want my I-phone anywhere near my roasting, sputtering food. Fingerprints drive me crazy enough, never mind flying fat on the screen.
Not long ago, when I interviewed Ina Garten, we both agreed that kitchen space is precious, and so is kitchen drawer space. The thermometer I have in there works fine. I’d rather use my phone to search recipes. In fact, you’re invited to party with us online anytime, by smartphone or laptop. No temperature-taking necessary. — FM
