On his way through the rolling Litchfield Hills, Alex Province was struck by how beautiful Connecticut is this time of year. And one of his favorite things to see on those hills. . .farms. And rows and rows of corn, as far as the eye can see. Crops so close to the road you feel like you can put your hand out the window and touch one.
Nevermind that he was on his way to get fresh peach ice cream from Arethusa’s. (Can anyone really blame him after listening to this show?) You went out for ice cream too.
Back to corn.
At the office—the studios of The Faith Middleton Food Schmooze®—we got to talking about our favorite places to stop for fresh corn. We realized that favorite farm stands are as beloved as favorite greasy spoons or dive bars. Don’t even try to tell Chris Prosperi there’s another farm stand in the state besides Young’s (East Granby). He says it’s the best corn on the planet.

I like Arisco’s Farm because it’s right down the street from my house in Cheshire, CT, and the sweet corn is consistently good. Very, very fresh tasting. Tomatoes, too. So what if I leave with a pie? Everyone does.
Alex: It was hard to remember precisely where his favorite corn stand is set up, but that’s the thing about farm stands. Some are pop-up, side-of-the-road, out-of-the-back-of-a-truck deals. He swears by Cole’s Farms and Greenhouses in Madison, though, so check them out. If you’re there, you may see Alex and hubby Matt floating by on their boat.
Faith: Faith gets two picks—not because she’s the boss, but because it’s impossible to pick one “best” and she’s lucky enough to be near two notables in New York where she spends lots of time in the summer. Seek out Sep’s Farm and Latham’s Farm. They’re tied for first in her book when it comes to fresh corn.
