Easy Cocktail: The Breakfast Martini

From Faith: Steeped in the history of martini cocktails, our frequent contributor Anthony DeSerio has put his own spin on an English classic called The Breakfast Martini, one that originally combined a British marmalade with gin. Here, Anthony gives us his version, which we like to think of as The Brunch Martini, featuring your choice of vodka or gin (Anthony likes Beefeater for this drink, but whatever you have around is fine.)

Ingredients
  • 1.5 ounces gin
  • 2 teaspoon marmalade (orange, strawberry or raspberry preserves, your choice)
  • .75 ounces lemon juice fresh
  • .5 ounces simple syrup see note
Servings:
Instructions
  1. Make simple syrup.
  2. Place all ingredients in an ice filled shaker and shake with a lid on until it's so cold it's hard to hold. Strain it into your favorite cocktail glass. (you can't get more festive than the classic martini glass!)
Recipe Notes

Note: To make simple syrup, in a sauce pan over medium heat, combine 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of water. (To make more it would be one cup of both ingredients.) Stir until the sugar is dissolved. When cool, store in a covered container in your refrigerator for three weeks and use for iced teas, coffees, and cocktails.)
