What a treat these were during our recent visit to Newman’s Own in Westport, CT. If you’re not a fan of wasabi in the salsa, feel free to skip it.

Flank Steak Tagliata with Salsa Verde
Tagliata is Italian for sliced steak. You’ll find it on nearly every Italian restaurant menu. But it’s easy to make at home, and a great choice for an unfussy meal. (Sometimes it’s also a good way to make one steak feed two.) Flank steak makes a great tagliata. It’s relatively inexpensive and easy to cook.
Jambalaya Casserole
This Louisiana inspired chicken and rice casserole adds a little jazz to the standard casserole list. I love having the flavors of jambalaya in a make-ahead, buffet-friendly version.
Masala-Crusted Salmon (Blackened Fillets with Cumin, Coriander, and Paprika)
Cumin and coriander provide deeply earthy flavors, while paprika and red chilli powder combine to give heat and a beautiful brick color to the fillets. Drizzled with mint chutney, the buttery salmon flakes easily with a fork and melts in your mouth. The best thing about this recipe is that it’s remarkably simple to make. Open up a bottle of wine, get a nice sear on the salmon, and dinner will be ready in half an hour.
Bratwurst with Sauerkraut and Smashed Potatoes
Serve the bratwurst with high-quality mustard, and substitute parsnips for the potatoes if your family prefers something sweeter. When preparing the potatoes, don’t use a potato masher or the results will be too smooth. (We just love potatoes that are smashed!)
